Medication Management for Aventura patients

Mood-stabilizer adjustment uses levels, kidney/thyroid labs, and teratogenicity counseling when relevant.

Genetic testing (pharmacogenomics) may change CYP2D6/2C19 probabilities. It is not a personality test.

Protocol elements we do not skip

Valproate: level, LFTs, CBC, pregnancy counseling.

Stimulants: BP/HR, sleep, appetite, PDMP, diversion discussion.

QTc risk: ECG when combining high-risk agents.

Alcohol withdrawal is not managed as an anxiety refill.

How Medication Management is structured

Set the next visit before the bottle runs out.

If side effects appear, do not wait for the next quarterly slot — tighten follow-up.

Confirm the target symptom and the diagnosis it belongs to.

Revisit the original diagnosis if two classes have failed.

Neighborhoods and ZIPs: 33160, 33180

South Florida heat, hurricane disruption, shift work, and multigenerational households show up in Aventura presentations. Medication Management intake asks about those stressors explicitly.

ZIP 33160 is the lead postal code listed for Aventura. Mail-order labs and pharmacy routing still use the patient's actual address, not this page's city token.

Aventura (Miami-Dade County) has about 40,000 residents. The nearest Peace & Heart Wellness exam room is the Hollywood office, about 20 minutes from Aventura Mall and the Intracoastal waterfront.

Cannabis and alcohol were left off the medication list as if they were not psychoactive.

Indications and differentials

Polypharmacy review when the list exceeds what the diagnosis can justify.

A DSM-5-TR diagnosis that has an evidence-based pharmacologic option the patient wants to consider.

ADHD medication only after the evaluation supports ADHD over mimics.

Taper request that requires a medical schedule.

Questions we hear about Medication Management

What is PDMP?

Florida's prescription drug monitoring program. We check it before controlled substances.

Do you monitor antipsychotics?

Weight, A1c, lipids, and neurologic side effects are part of the protocol.

Do you prescribe benzodiazepines long-term?

Rarely, with a documented indication and a taper orientation. They are not a standing plan for GAD.

What labs do I need?

Depends on the drug: TSH, lithium level, A1c, etc. We will list them in the plan.

Will you take over my current list?

After a diagnostic review. We do not rubber-stamp unsafe combinations.

Can I refuse a medication?

Always. Informed consent includes the option of no medication.

Is your practice discreet for Aventura patients?

Absolutely. We maintain strict HIPAA compliance, and our telehealth option ensures complete privacy. Many Aventura patients prefer virtual appointments from their residence or office.

Do you address image-related anxiety and mood disorders?

Yes. We treat the full spectrum of anxiety and mood disorders, including those related to social pressure, perfectionism, and performance expectations common in high-achieving communities.
