What Medication Management actually includes

Booking a med check is booking a medical visit, not a vending machine.

Functional psychiatry does not mean 'no medication.' It means medication plus the labs that could change the choice.

DSM-5-TR framing for sleep med management

Need for metabolic or neurologic monitoring on an existing antipsychotic or mood stabilizer.

Polypharmacy review when the list exceeds what the diagnosis can justify.

Not indicated to supply controlled substances without a supporting diagnosis and monitoring plan.

Hypnotics only after sleep differential, not as a standing nightcap.

In-office versus Florida telehealth

Coral Springs sits in Broward County. County-level resources (crisis lines, hospital ERs, IOP programs) are discussed during Medication Management when a higher level of care is safer than outpatient titration.

Parking at 7603 Davie Road Extension is on site. Coral Springs patients who drive 32 minutes should plan for weekday 9:00–17:00 hours; Saturday is by appointment only.

Check labs due for the current class.

Reconcile the current list, including OTC, cannabis, and hormones.

Clinical FAQ

What is GeneSight?

A pharmacogenetic panel that may adjust probabilities for certain antidepressants. It does not diagnose ADHD or depression.

Will I get a refill without a visit?

Not as a routine. Monitoring interval is part of the prescription.

Do you monitor antipsychotics?

Weight, A1c, lipids, and neurologic side effects are part of the protocol.

What labs do I need?

Depends on the drug: TSH, lithium level, A1c, etc. We will list them in the plan.

Do you work with my therapist?

With consent, yes. Medication does not replace psychotherapy when both are indicated.

What about pregnancy?

Tell us before a prescription is sent. Some agents need specialist coordination.

Do you work with patients dealing with trauma-related anxiety?

Yes. Our psychiatric evaluations thoroughly assess anxiety and trauma-related conditions, and we create comprehensive treatment plans that may include medication, therapy referrals, and functional testing.

Is telehealth available for Coral Springs patients?

Absolutely. Many Coral Springs patients use our secure telehealth platform, especially for follow-up medication management appointments. It saves the drive while maintaining quality of care.

How Medication Management is structured

Confirm the target symptom and the diagnosis it belongs to.

Reconcile the current list, including OTC, cannabis, and hormones.

Decide: continue, adjust, switch, or taper — one primary change when possible.

Review PDMP and allergies.

Labs, scales, and follow-up cadence

QTc risk: ECG when combining high-risk agents.

Lithium: level, TSH, creatinine, pregnancy test as indicated.

MAOI diet and washout rules if that class is ever used.

Missed labs = delayed titration.
