DSM-5-TR psychiatric evaluation serving Hollywood
Patients driving from Hollywood (0 min) can complete the first evaluation in Hollywood or, when clinically appropriate, by Florida telehealth.
What Psychiatric Evaluations actually includes
Functional psychiatric evaluation adds labs and metabolic context to the psychiatric interview. Labs do not license skipping DSM-5-TR criteria.
Psychosis evaluation treats hallucinations, delusions, and disorganization as time-sensitive. Substance-induced and mood-with-psychosis are on the differential.
How this differs from a 15-minute med check
ER psychiatry stabilizes crises. Outpatient Psychiatric Evaluations is for people who can wait for a scheduled diagnostic hour.
Therapy intake focuses on process and alliance. Psychiatric evaluation focuses on diagnosis, risk, and medical treatment options.
Traditional 15-minute med checks assume the diagnosis is already correct. We do not assume that.
DSM-5-TR framing for mental health screening appointment
Prior diagnoses that conflict with each other or with the current mental status exam.
Eating-pattern change with medical risk (restriction, purging, electrolyte clues).
mental health screening appointment is treated as a presenting complaint that still has to survive a differential, not as a self-diagnosis we rubber-stamp.
Not indicated solely to obtain a letter that the interview does not support.
Stressors we document in Hollywood
Side effects were labeled 'anxiety' instead of akathisia, hyponatremia, or thyroid over-replacement.
You were discharged from an ER with a safety plan and no outpatient diagnostic appointment.
English is not the language you think in; culturally flattened interviews miss the actual syndrome.
Labs, scales, and follow-up cadence
Telehealth identity and location in Florida are verified.
We do not combine MAOIs with contraindicated agents. We do not ignore serotonin syndrome risk.
Notes are written the same day whenever possible so the record matches the visit.
Pregnancy status and contraception when prescribing agents with teratogenic or lactation issues.
How Psychiatric Evaluations is structured
If telehealth was used, we record why an in-office visit was or was not required.
After the visit you should be able to repeat the working diagnosis and the next three steps.
Before the visit: intake forms, medication list, prior labs. Incomplete forms shrink the diagnostic hour.
Opening 10 minutes: chief concern, safety, and what you want the evaluation to decide.
Questions we hear about Psychiatric Evaluations
Is this a psychiatrist (MD/DO)?
Care is provided by Dr. Dorothy Chatelier, DNP, FNP-BC, PMHNP-BC — a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. She diagnoses and prescribes within Florida APRN scope. She is not an MD psychiatrist.
Is the visit confidential?
HIPAA applies, with the usual safety exceptions (imminent harm, mandated reports).
How long is a psychiatric evaluation?
New evaluations are typically 60–90 minutes. Follow-up length depends on risk and how many variables changed.
Is GeneSight required?
No. It is considered after failed medication trials or significant side effects.
Do you replace my therapist?
No. Psychiatric evaluation and psychotherapy are complementary.
Will you prescribe on visit one?
Only when the diagnosis, safety, and monitoring plan support it. Controlled substances have a higher bar.
Book Psychiatric Evaluations
Call (888) 307-2199 to hold an appointment for Psychiatric Evaluations. Mention Hollywood so staff can plan in-office versus Florida telehealth for the first visit.
After Psychiatric Evaluations is scheduled, complete intake forms once. Repeating the same history at every visit is what we are trying to avoid.
