Lauderdale-by-the-Sea psychiatric evaluation: scales plus history
PHQ-9, GAD-7, ASRS, and MDQ are scored when the history supports them. Scores guide Psychiatric Evaluations; they do not replace it.
Psychiatric Evaluations for Lauderdale-by-the-Sea patients
Booking a psychiatric evaluation is the start of a record, not a guarantee of a preferred medication.
Initial consults at this clinic are scheduled as 60–90 minutes because a 20-minute slot cannot hold a reliable differential.
How Lauderdale-by-the-Sea patients actually get here
South Florida heat, hurricane disruption, shift work, and multigenerational households show up in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea presentations. Psychiatric Evaluations intake asks about those stressors explicitly.
Neighborhoods we hear from most in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea include The A1A village core and the Commercial Boulevard beach approach. ZIP codes 33308 map to this service-area page.
History of present illness is a timeline, not a mood adjective. We date onsets, postpartum windows, and medication trials.
Mental status exam is documented: appearance, speech, affect, thought process, insight, cognition, and risk.
How Psychiatric Evaluations is structured
Opening 10 minutes: chief concern, safety, and what you want the evaluation to decide.
Psychiatric review of systems covers mood, anxiety, psychosis, OCD, trauma, ADHD, sleep, eating, and substance use even if you came for only one of those.
History of present illness is a timeline, not a mood adjective. We date onsets, postpartum windows, and medication trials.
Scales are chosen to match the hypothesis — we do not print every questionnaire in the building.
Indications and differentials
mood disorder evaluation is treated as a presenting complaint that still has to survive a differential, not as a self-diagnosis we rubber-stamp.
Pediatric primary care is not the focus of this clinic; adolescents are considered case-by-case.
Out-of-state patients cannot complete a Florida telehealth evaluation while physically outside Florida.
A request for a second opinion before a major medication change or a disability form.
Protocol elements we do not skip
Benzodiazepines, when used, have an indication, a taper plan, and a discussion of dependence.
QT, sodium, TSH, and metabolic labs when the chosen medication class requires them.
Missed appointments after a high-risk visit trigger outreach, not silent discharge.
Collateral from a partner or parent is requested when insight is limited — with consent.
Clinical FAQ
Can I use this evaluation for a legal letter?
Only if the interview actually supports the opinion. We do not write unsupported letters.
What labs might you order?
Hypothesis-driven: TSH with free T4, ferritin, vitamin D, B12, folate, CBC, CMP, and selected hormones. Not every patient needs every test.
Will you prescribe on visit one?
Only when the diagnosis, safety, and monitoring plan support it. Controlled substances have a higher bar.
Do you accept insurance?
Most major plans are accepted; verify benefits before the visit. Coverage is not a clinical promise.
Can you evaluate psychosis?
Yes, and we will escalate to a higher level of care if outpatient treatment is unsafe.
Do you replace my therapist?
No. Psychiatric evaluation and psychotherapy are complementary.
Are psychiatric services available near Lauderdale-by-the-Sea?
While we're not located in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, our Hollywood office is about 25 minutes away, and our telehealth platform makes follow-up care extremely convenient for coastal residents.
Do you address seasonal mood changes?
Yes. Seasonal affective patterns, including reverse SAD (summer-related), are recognized in our evaluations. Florida's unique climate patterns can affect mood differently than northern states.
Next step
After Psychiatric Evaluations is scheduled, complete intake forms once. Repeating the same history at every visit is what we are trying to avoid.
Start with one thorough Psychiatric Evaluations evaluation rather than a series of 15-minute check-ins. Book at (888) 307-2199 or online.
