Controlled-substance monitoring in Plantation
Pharmacogenetics can shift probabilities after failed trials. It does not pick a winner from a menu.
Medication Management for Plantation patients
Mood-stabilizer adjustment uses levels, kidney/thyroid labs, and teratogenicity counseling when relevant.
Functional psychiatry does not mean 'no medication.' It means medication plus the labs that could change the choice.
Clinical FAQ
Are leftover 'affordable refill' URLs a discount?
No. They are retained slugs. Billing follows insurance contracts.
Will I get a refill without a visit?
Not as a routine. Monitoring interval is part of the prescription.
Can you help me taper?
Yes. Tapers are scheduled by drug class. Do not stop MAOIs, benzos, or paroxetine abruptly on your own.
Do you prescribe benzodiazepines long-term?
Rarely, with a documented indication and a taper orientation. They are not a standing plan for GAD.
What labs do I need?
Depends on the drug: TSH, lithium level, A1c, etc. We will list them in the plan.
Can a PMHNP-BC prescribe psychiatric medication in Florida?
Yes. Dr. Chatelier is a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. Prescribing is within Florida APRN scope, with monitoring.
How long is the drive from Plantation?
Our Hollywood office is approximately 15-20 minutes from Plantation via 595 or Broward Boulevard. Telehealth is also available for follow-up appointments.
Do you take a functional approach to psychiatry?
Yes. Beyond traditional medication management, we investigate root causes including hormone levels, thyroid function, and nutritional deficiencies — an approach Plantation patients particularly value.
What we rule in — and rule out
Not indicated as a replacement for inpatient care when risk is high.
Not indicated for out-of-state telehealth prescribing.
mood stabilizer adjustment still has to map to a problem on the list.
Hypnotics only after sleep differential, not as a standing nightcap.
Visit flow for Medication Management
Counsel on onset, alcohol, driving, pregnancy, and overdose risk.
Revisit the original diagnosis if two classes have failed.
Reconcile the current list, including OTC, cannabis, and hormones.
Send the prescription to a named pharmacy; document the pharmacy.
In-office versus Florida telehealth
South Florida heat, hurricane disruption, shift work, and multigenerational households show up in Plantation presentations. Medication Management intake asks about those stressors explicitly.
Plantation sits in Broward County. County-level resources (crisis lines, hospital ERs, IOP programs) are discussed during Medication Management when a higher level of care is safer than outpatient titration.
Document why a requested stimulant or benzo was declined.
Decide: continue, adjust, switch, or taper — one primary change when possible.
Protocol elements we do not skip
Clozapine: ANC monitoring — we refer if we cannot meet the REMS cadence.
SGAs: weight, A1c, lipids; AIMS on a schedule.
Missed labs = delayed titration.
Benzodiazepines: indication, duration limit, taper language.
