Can the evaluation be done by video?

Labs, scales, and follow-up cadence
Safety screen every visit: SI/HI, psychosis, inability to care for self, and intoxication.
Notes are written the same day whenever possible so the record matches the visit.
Collateral from a partner or parent is requested when insight is limited — with consent.
Benzodiazepines, when used, have an indication, a taper plan, and a discussion of dependence.
How Psychiatric Evaluations is structured
Labs are ordered when they could change management, not to decorate the chart.
Medical review flags thyroid, anemia, cardiac QT risk, pregnancy, and neurologic symptoms that redirect the workup.
After the visit you should be able to repeat the working diagnosis and the next three steps.
Scales are chosen to match the hypothesis — we do not print every questionnaire in the building.
Credentials and method
When Psychiatric Evaluations overlaps with psychotherapy needs, the practice coordinates with therapists rather than replacing weekly therapy. Medication and psychotherapy have different mechanisms and both may be indicated.
Controlled-substance prescribing, when used in Psychiatric Evaluations, follows Florida PDMP review and a monitoring plan. Stimulants and benzodiazepines are never started from a portal message alone.
Care is structured around validated instruments (PHQ-9, GAD-7, ASRS, MDQ) plus a clinical interview. Scores inform Psychiatric Evaluations; they do not replace it.
Indications and differentials
Family history of bipolar disorder or psychosis that changes how aggressively we screen.
Out-of-state patients cannot complete a Florida telehealth evaluation while physically outside Florida.
Insomnia that is either a syndrome of its own or a driver of daytime psychiatric symptoms.
Adult ADHD concern with childhood onset clues or with strong mimic risk (sleep, trauma, mood).
